Alan Gray

"My name is Alan Gray and I am a Senior Case Worker for Hampshire County Council. My current role is in the Social Work Team at Queen Alexander Hospital in Portsmouth. The main responsibility of my role is to facilitate hospital discharge for patients that require on going care after a acute hospital stay. During the Winter months of 2018, Hampshire County Council commissioned several “Winter Pressure beds “due to the high demand for Acute hospital beds. These beds were used for patients that were fit to leave hospital but for some reason unable to return home after discharge. Hunters Lodge were one of the Residential Environments that the Social Work Team at QA Hospital used. I have been working alongside Hunters Lodge with the Winter Pressure Bed scheme since September 2018. I placed several people at Hunters Lodge during the winter months of 2018 and I have always been extremely impressed when dealing with the management and staff. The team at Hunters Lodge have always been very prompt in undertaking assessments after being contacted about a possible placement at the home. Kelly (Deputy Manager) & Holly (Head of Care) who I have supported during the assessment have always been polite, dignified and extremely helpful to the person they are assessing. The engaging nature of both Kelly & Holly have put patient at ease and they have answered any questions in a polite and re – assuring manner and always making sure that the patient is fully informed on all aspects of Hunter Lodge. I have also visited Hunter Lodge on several occasions and have always been made very welcome from the moment the door is answered. I have been met with total professionalism, checking my badge, asking me who I am there to visit and asking me to sign in. The staff have also informed me of the fire procedure and pointing out the nearest fire exit. The facilities and staff are excellent and there is a real personal touch. The staff have been engaging, friendly and extremely supportive. They have supplied me with the up to date, relevant information of any medical or social issues that may have occurred and informed me of any action they have taken. With the consent of the resident obtained by the staff, I have been shown up to date, in-depth and well written support plans and risk assessments that have been completed in a person-centred way. Hunters Lodge is a very pro-active care home, there is an excellent feel as soon as you walk through the door. Every single member of staff clearly cares about the residents. There is an abundance of activities provided and all residents are continually encouraged to join in. The people I have placed there after hospital discharge have always stated that they have enjoyed their stay at Hunters Lodge and spoke very highly of both the environment and the staff who work there. Since the Winter Pressure Bed scheme has ended, I have placed several people from hospital. The feedback from their family’s has always been excellent and they are really pleased that their relatives are supported with privacy, dignity and respect. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hunters Lodge in the future."

Rachel Woodhouse IIC

"I have been visiting Oakview on a regular basis since early June 2018. The purpose of my visits has been to support the team (staff and family) around a particular resident to use Intensive Interaction to enhance their social and communication experiences. I have always found the atmosphere at Oakview stimulating and calm, with lots going on. I have observed the staff have open, caring and supportive relationships with the residents, treating them with dignity and respect. This ethos has been also been apparent in the way I as a professional have been welcomed and supported in my work. Similarly I have seen how positively family members are welcomed and involved in the home. There has been a very person-centred approach to my involvement with the resident. This has been particularly important as their needs are very different from many of the other residents. It was a member of staff who instigated my involvement, as she felt that the person might benefit from Intensive interaction and this has proved to be correct. I have been particularly impressed by the open and forward thinking approach of the individuals that I have had dealings with. Intensive Interaction is not a standard approach in Dementia Care (although it is becoming increasingly recognised to be of benefit) and requires thinking outside the box. However it has been embraced by the organisation as they have seen the benefits for this resident and can see its potential for others within the home. They have expressed an intention to invest in training in the future. On a more practical level, the accommodation is bright and functional and I have always observed the home to be clean and safe. The system for gaining access to the building is well managed, making visitors feel welcome while ensuring security for vulnerable residents. By far Oakview is the top on my list for the following: Professional approach: with taking care of residents and each other Team work: exceptional, care for each other and help when needed Hygiene and cleanliness: outstanding, when you come into the building it's fresh and we'll kept Welcoming: extremely warm friendly atmosphere I now have built a wonderful repour with staff that I am now massaging some of the residents alongside exercise classes. The residents are so well cared for I would be very happy if my mum went there, because I would know I could rest as in my view it's the very best care home in the area. I wish you all a lovely Christmas and a prosperous new year Kindest regards Thisbe@gfitness"

"I would like to say how pleased we are so far with the service mum is receiving. The staff at Willow Lodge, however busy, seem to find time to talk to us when visiting and also to attend to mum's needs. Mum appears settled even though it is only a week and from my sister and my point of view that is most important."
